Isaiah Varner enrolled as a Private in Company "A" 57th Ohio Vol. Infantry from Putnam Co.

He was wounded April 6, 1862 at the Battle of Shiloh. (hit in the left hip)

Returned to duty, then on July 22, 1864 he was shot in the right shoulder at the Battle of Atlanta.

He was captured and sent to Andersonville Prison,  Sept. 22, 1864 they released him thinking he

would die & sent him home. He survived the wound & lived a long life.

In 1921 - Lima, Ohio they finally had the bullet in his right shoulder removed. He died April 8, 1927.
